Lee.Evaluation

What were you asked to do? (Project brief tasks)

For this project we had to create a web site with at least two podcast pages.

What did you make/present?

I made an art site based on my art and designed with my personality in mind.

What did you want to communicate?

I wanted to help poeple see how easy it can be to colour things and show how it can be done.

Who was your intended audience?

I think i'm directed at everybody, but mainly young adults because children are to young to understand.

What materials and processes did you experiment with?

i tried several designs and spent a while working out how i wanted to link them together.

What materials and processes did you use in your final designs?

I used photshop to build the actual template, cam studio to record the videos and dreamweaver to put everything together.

What did you do to ensure you worked with tools and materials safely?

As i do most of my design work at home i tend to get carried away very rapidly and forget to take a break, but in class at least i do have one.

How well did you manage your time?

I don't think i managed my time very , in fact i've had the same problem threw out every project this therm.

What would you like to have done differently?

I think i should have concentrated more on the design and functionality.

What will you do to ensure you improve for the next project?

i'll definitely do more research and develop my designs better next time. I'll also try to organize my time better in order to get more done. Also i need to stay focused on what i have at hand.

Mark evaluation

What were you asked to do? (Project brief tasks)

We had to create a digital story from either a famous quote or a poem that wasn't clichée.

What did you make/present?

I mad a short video based on a mall poem including two of my characters and their story. I hand drew all the images used.

What did you want to communicate?

I wanted to show that on video or poem could have several meanings. Some can be very obscure and hard to spot. This is why my video seems to have unfitting music.

Who was your intended audience?

I don't think i have an intended audience but one i could think of is my age group, 16 to 30.

What materials and processes did you experiment with?

i combined both scanned material, final cut pro, photoshop..

What materials and processes did you reject?

i wanted my images to have a slight realistic feel to them but still have my style.

What materials and processes did you use in your final designs?

I combined scanned images with photoshop editing techniques to create images used in the video.

What did you do to ensure you worked with tools and materials safely?

I took a break when i needed and scanned my materials out of the way.

How well did you manage your time?

i didn't manage my time vary well at all, i find that i haven't done enough research and i'm sure that it isn't varied enough.

Mark. More reality

Do you forget all men inside of here...
Sobbing all night and drinking beer...
Wine comes out of every tear...
Are you sure, you don't want to get out here?
You said they all lied to you...
And all they left you too...
And you don't know what else to do...

You don't want to be alone, but you just trust no-one
You think everyone lies and you don't look beyond
You just close your eyes and pretend to run...

When you finally leave that place...
You are still the same lies your face...
You are drunk with no left grace...
Are you stuck, or inside an endless maze?
You're walking home at last...
The night is dark and time go's fast...
Now you think you live in the past...

You don't want to be alone, but you just trust no-one
You think everyone lies and you don't look beyond
You just close your eyes and pretend to run...

You try to sleep but you just can't do...
You can't go on and just pretend too...
That you are fine where you just went to...
Is this really the life that you have choosen to live?
When you finally fall asleep in the dark night...
Inside your dream you have a rough fight...
The next day must be a journey to light...

You don't want to be alone, but you just trust no-one
You think everyone lies and you don't look beyond
You just close your eyes and pretend to run...

Mark. Chosen poeme

Reality

If you need a place, in this reality
Just to be yourself, while everything seems awfully
To cry, to scream, to relief your heart
When you feel your world is falling apart
I will be right here, to wait and hope
And I will gently remove the rope
Which lies and tightens around your neck
Pull you away, and of course I’ll check
The light in your eyes is fading away
Turning black, turning cold, clearly with dismay
Your heart feels far away, gone to disappear
I want you to stay, I want you near
I smile at you, and try to remember
What it was like, no need to go further
Loneliness and sadness passing by
Hand in hand, with tears in the eye
Drowning in words, unnecessary pain
No need to describe, no need to complain
Your eyes are open, lightning once more
Watching, sparkling, just like before
I’ll hold you in my arms, hold you tight
Tell you, that we, together, have won this fight

While reading this poem the first things that come to mind are love, war and death.

Love: ""If you need a place, in this reality
Just to be yourself, while everything seems awfully
To cry, to scream, to relief your heart
When you feel your world is falling apart
I will be right here, to wait and hope""

This whole poem is about love and the pain of loosing the one one cares about. This section is about the search for comfort, a place to hide and recover.
I also feel that depression is hinted within this poem, get this from the verse, "When you feel your world is falling apart". Depression does make you feel lost and that everything around you is going wrong. Some often feel that it is their own fault.

Death: ""And I will gently remove the rope
Which lies and tightens around your neck
Pull you away, and of course I’ll check
The light in your eyes is fading away
Turning black, turning cold, clearly with dismay
Your heart feels far away, gone to disappear""

War: ""Loneliness and sadness passing by
Hand in hand, with tears in the eye
Drowning in words, unnecessary pain
No need to describe, no need to complain
Your eyes are open, lightning once more
Watching, sparkling, just like before
I’ll hold you in my arms, hold you tight
Tell you, that we, together, have won this fight""

Mark. Immersive games

""Early last year, despite disliking most racing games, I found Burnout Paradise to be incredibly enjoyable. It’s arcade style and forgiving controls made flying through the streets of Paradise City exhilarating.

Just recently I got to try GRID and Project Gotham Racing 4 at my friends house. I also bought WipEout HD off of PSN. After playing PGR4 for a while I ended up frustrated and kind of bored. Something about it failed to engage me. Even after plowing through levels on a motorcycle weaving in between cars the game seemed to lack something.

After switching to GRID I was immediately impressed by the games look and couldn’t help but burst out laughing after making my first turn at 200 mph only to slam into a wall and explode. I was also very pleasantly surprised to then learn about the games rewind feature, just like in Prince of Persia or Braid, you can rewind your car to a safe spot before your crash. However, after an hour or so with GRID I had become increasingly irritated with trying to take turns at high speeds. If I tried to slow down, I’d make the turn at a crawl. If I tried to maintain some speed and slide through it, I’d end up in the dirt or slammed up against the wall. Any time I found the perfect medium for a turn I found I couldn’t replicate it. Every turn required a similar trial and error process that was no less easy than the last. I simply could not get a feeling for the game.

That or I just suck at it and didn’t want to spend the time getting good. Shut up Aaron, I know you’re reading this. ;)

Later that week I decided to pick up WipEout for the PS3. It is only 20 bucks, and GameFly was taking forever to ship me my next game. Also, it looked startlingly like F-Zero GX for the GameCube and I loved that game. Right away I started having fun, the game looked great, had tight controls and where and how to make a turn was instantly intuitive. My only complaint was the game didn’t seem fast enough, but after a quick bout online in the fastest speed class I changed my mind.

I knew why I preferred Burnout and WipEout to GRID and PGR4. I’ve always preferred the more arcade style racing games to the realistic ones. This led me to wonder if this applied to other genres.

As far as shooters go, two good games to compare are Gears of War and Rainbow Six Vegas. I love both those games, but the over the top violence in Gears is satisfying and hilarious. It’s also cartoony enough to not be vomit inducing. Rainbow Six on the other hand required a bit more thought before even firing your gun. You have to balance your gear between protection and mobility, pick your gun from many options, decide which two additional items you want to bring along, and finally what upgrades you want to put onto everything. RSV is very satisfying once you get your character tailored the way you like, but it is an inherently different experience than Gears.

Another comparison is Oblivion versus Fable 2. Oblivion is a great immersive game that, while I did enjoy, was a bit overwhelming. The sheer amount of things you were responsible for in that game was a bit too much, not to mention the leveling system felt more detrimental each time you “dinged” than helpful. Fable 2 on the other hand was much more cutesy. The world was big and fun to explore like Oblivion, but the barriers to entry were much lower. The game also had a great sense of humor.

One last genre I thought about is the sandbox genre. One of my favorite games of 2007 was Crackdown. The entire world felt like a playground for you to romp around in. The story in it was basically an excuse to give you people to mow down. The world was huge and colorful and housed some of the coolest looking explosions I’ve ever seen. Compare this to GTA4 and you’ll quickly see a huge difference. The world of Liberty City is dark and brown, the story is depressing, and even though you have a huge sandbox to mess around in, the character development doesn’t lend itself so nicely to murderous rampages.

After thinking about other genres it seems being realistic only seems to deter me from racing games. Despite what I said about Rainbow Six Vegas, Oblivion, and GTA4, I still loved all three of those games. GRID and PGR4 I couldn’t even play after an hour with each. I think the main difference is while the stylized games are more fun for me; I look for more than just fun out of most genres I play. GTA4 has an excellent story and Oblivion has one of the most immersive worlds I’ve ever played in. Racing games on the other hand rarely even try to offer anything else than a good time. """

Video game producers are trying to create games that are as immersive as possible therefor creating an alternative universe.
The down side to this is that some people forget what is reality. Some of the games today are blamed for youngsters attitude and violent natures but that is probably more due to personal problems and past more than the games them selves. For some the games are probably a form of escape, a way to forget about their problems and relax. Alot of these games often have influences from real life, some are even contain real events that were happening while the game was being create.

mark. reality

We all have our own reality, place in our mind where we can escape form the world. Some refuse to believe in such a thing, others are dependent on this, and for others, the border between reality and their personal world are so blurred that they forget which one is actually real.
Video games recreate this by producing games that player can get involved with and fully control, either the characters, the environment or even sometimes the story line it self.
The Sims have always been a game based on immersion, where the player can fully create characters, homes and neighborhoods , even entire families.
EA games, the producer of the Sims, have tried to make their games more realistic yet still keep a sort of boundary between the game and reality. They have made the characters behave like humans, have the same needs and activities, yet they speak an incomprehensible language.

The movie matrix was based on the idea that our reality, may not be reality at all.
This has actually scared people, many did believe that it was true.
But many who actually weren't as gullible thought about it. Some concluded that it wasn't real, but some are still thinking about it.
Though this is something we have always wondered and as we become more and more dependent on computer technology, there is a risk that we may be controlled by computers. This may sound like fantasy, but while some scientist focus on creating their robotics, others are truly worried and see this as a potential threat.

YOU ARE LIFE

You are my faith
When I have no hope
You are my love
When I have reasons to hate
You are my wind
When I have no wings to soar,
No one to call friend
You warm my heart
When it is blue
You are my thoughts
When I have no clue
You are my words
When I can’t say I love you
You are the light that completes me
You are my reflection in the dark
You are my heart
You are the shade of love
That sets me free
You were my savior that passed me on the street
That saw through my mask I was wearing
You took away the lies,deceit
I was carrying
Now I am complete
Now I am free
Before you came onto my life
I was just half the man the man
I thought I could be
Now I have new life
You are my life
You are life.

WE ARE ONE

Different fishes in the ocean

Different flowers in the garden

Same air is shared by them, same sunlight falls on them

The love is in the air, you just need to breathe

If we follow this rule no one will grieve

When we all have same heart than why are we apart

Black or white doesn’t matter these differences should be shattered

When we have the same eyes than why can’t we share our sight?

Why have we created so many walls around us, so high and so strong?

Some of wealth, some of pride

Some of race, some of tribe

So join each other’s hand and make hammer

Break these boundaries around you and bring scattered world back together.

Just let me sleep

What is worse than empty lined paper,
lying in front of you?

A pencil moving light and slowly,
beautifully but tired, over the sheet?
Drawing circles in your head,
but on the paper nothing is written?
The head upon the pillow,
the eyes are nearly closed. Dreaming far away.

In this dream, nothing has changed. Bright it is,
and oh, so wonderful.
Dreams turns into nightmares. Nightmares into reality.
Reality is once again worse than dreams.
What is then worse than empty lined paper?
Reality I tell you my friend.

The Beauty of Nature
Often when I awake in the morning, I see the pretty and bright blue sky,

Coupled with the warmth of the sun that catches my eye;
Then later as I look out my living room window,
I see the beauty of nature, unfold its pretty image before me,
The trees of all types show their bright green leaves;
While the grass its splendor all around the front of my yard;
And many pretty flowers show signs of a rainbow
along the sides of the building in which I live,
Yet, soon the Fall season will be here,
and many of natures colors will come to disappear,
But the beauty of nature will always be with us in its own way,
be it summer, fall, winter, or spring I do say,
Its been that way through the earths many years of life
and will continue to grow and flourish when we’re no longer here,
Yes, “The Beauty of Nature” brings warmth to my heart with
everyone of its elements from each days start.

Bottled Up Inside

Bottled up inside are the words I never said.
The feelings that I hide,
The lines you never read.
You can see it in my eyes,
Read it on my face.
Trapped are the lies of the past with memories that linger,
Won’t seem to go away.
Why can I be happier?

Today is brand new day.
Yesterdays are over,
Even though the hunting is not.
Nothing lasts forever,
I must cherish what I’ve got.
Don’t take my love for granted for soon it will be gone.
All you’ve ever wanted the love you thought you’d won.
The hurt I’m feeling now won’t disappear over night.
But somehow, someday,
Everything will turn out alright.
No more wishing for the past,
It wasn’t meant to be,
Didn’t seem to last.
So I have to set you free.

My Heart

Why does it seem so lonely even when its not. It’s like it can be stir in a pot.
I never thought that things would be this way. Cause I didn’t know that emotions were here to stay.

Sometimes it’s happy and sometimes sad. I didn’t know that it would be this bad after just going down hill. Some wonder why not take a pill.

The heart is not to be played with. There are people whose heart is as black as midnight but I thank God for the light.

It needs to be loved and cherished but all that is left is for it to perish. For I thirst and seek compassion from the one who came to save because he already gave. My heart is heavy with burden which only he can lift. For only Thou art worthy of giving a priceless gift.

My Sorrow

I sit alone and think about life.
All my wrongs, and all my rights.
Wondering how love could be so blind,
One step forward and I left it behind.

Wrapped up in troubles from my cheating heart,
My lovers arms I would never part.
Then came the day I had to choose,
The husband who loves me, the lover I couldn’t lose.

My marriage in shambles, a baby on the way,
I asked God for the strength to show me the way.
For the ring on my finger has lost it’s shine,
The love that I lost I now must find.

All these years of marriage, where did it go?
Does my husband even know how much I love him so?
Starting over is never easy to do,
But with the grace of God, we will manage to get through.

God has given me the greatest man of all,
Who stood beside me when I took that fall.
He never gave up, never lost faith,
Love is what we made from all of the hate.

Soon the hurt will be begin to fade,
Never to lose sight of the love we made.
My husband is everything, everything to me,
These are my words of sorrow for the whole world to see.

Tell those that you love how you feel,
Those that you hurt, give them time to heal.
Today is the light to bring new beginnings,
Tomorrow in the night to forget about the endings.

Oh Love Oh Love - I Hate You

Oh love Oh love, we can’t go through
I hate to say I’m giving up on you
Oh love Oh love, don’t you wonder why the sky is blue?
well love… it’s all because of you!
Oh love Oh love, you make us cry until we cry no more
you are disappointment knocking on the door
Oh love Oh love, your gift to us is heartache and pain
just a naive and useless game!
Oh love Oh love, you tricked me once but never again
I can’t believe I thought you were my friend!
Oh love Oh love, I know I’m not the only one who thought love was true
but you’re only a fantasy that makes us blue.
Oh love Oh love, you see we like to believe
that true love does exist don’t you see?
Oh love Oh love, we are imperfect by far
so we wait day and day for someone…something so perfect so sweet like sugar on your bare tongue.
Oh love Oh love, though a rose is as beautiful as can be, with petals so red and moist
it must be voiced that within a rose is thorns black as coal there to cut into your tender heart- a warning left untold.
Oh love Oh love, you’re a wasted emotion
Oh love Oh love, I am throwing away my devotion to you
I said were through
Oh love Oh love, never will I be misled by you again.
Oh love Oh love, this is the finale and end…

Lee. Evaluation

What were you asked to do? (Project brief tasks)

For this project we had to create an interactive web site containing a survival guide based on the theme of the apocalypse of our choice.

What did you make/present?

I created a website based on volcanoes. But the overall look was based on traveling and information.

What did you want to communicate?

I wanted to remind people that volcanoes are very real and will pose a huge threat.

Who was your intended audience?

I think i'm directed at everybody, but mainly young adults because children are to young to understand and older people usually are skeptical of these sort of things.

What materials and processes did you experiment with?

I've tried several times to create animations for the website but it was beginning to become so much of a night mare that i had to let it go, due to time.

What materials and processes did you use in your final designs?

I combined photoshop with flash, often switching between the two to fix issues i had with the templates.

What did you do to ensure you worked with tools and materials safely?

As i do most of my design work at home i tend to get carried away very rapidly and forget to take a break, but in class at least i do have one. Also i made sure to stop and relax when i got fustrated with the coding.

How well did you manage your time?

I don't think i managed my time very , in fact i've had the same problem threw out every project this therm.

What were your strengths in completing this project?

I think the subject i chose is more sensible then other because the treat is very real compared to a zombi invasion, though the zombies would have been more entertaining.

What would you like to have done differently?

I think i should have concentrated more on the design and functionality then the information i was putting in there.

What will you do to ensure you improve for the next project?

i'll definitely do more research and develop my designs better next time. I'll also try to organize my time better in order to get more done. Also i need to stay focused on what i have at hand.

Lee. Flash step by step

To start with, i imported all my images and video into flash.

I then created the layers needed and named then.
I set all my backgrounds on the same layer, but laying them out separate on the time line, approximately by 10 frames each... Some needed more depending on the content of the page.
I created 3 separate layers for each button on the main page, but my buttons were text and it was difficult to click on them. ?So i converted the text to a button. I? double clicked on the button which took me to the buttons timeline. I created a keyframe in each box available. in hit i drew a box over the text to create the button. But when i tested the buttons it was still hard to click on them and the curser was mainly offering to select the text, so i had to change the text to an image. I did this by braking apart the text twice, then i copied the text and paste it on the available boxes on the button timeline.
I then put in the actions necessary so that when the buttons were clicked, they took you to a certain point on the timeline.
I did the same for all the buttons on the main page and only added the coding for the other buttons.
I also created a sort animation on the first page. I did this by writing some text on it's own layer and created a tween. I then place the border of the background back onto the stage to hid the text that comes in, this gives the illusion of a screen.

To finish i brought in the text and placed it on it's own layer. In some cases i had to bring in the border, out side of the boxes, to fix certain issues. I had to edit the text to make sure it stayed within the boxes.
