James LeBrecht
President and Lead Sound Designer
In 1996, award-winning sound designer James LeBrecht launched Berkeley Sound Artists, a full-service post-production sound company. Since that time, BSA has established itself as the "go-to" audio house for filmmakers, game companies and corporate event producers.
Berkeley Sound Artists is home to a group of experienced, diverse editors, mixers and sound designers. Whether it's the cleanup and polish that your documentary soundtrack needs or the perfect sound design for an independent film, BSA has the talented people and facilities that will give your project creative, pristine sound.
Got an awful recording? No problem. For years, we've been restoring sound for filmmakers that would otherwise have had to been replaced or tossed out. We've made tapes intelligible for lawyers that would have been inadmissible as-is and preserved old family recordings by transferring them to CD and MP3.
Need the right music and sound for a website? You're covered. Our affiliated composers give our clients special attention and we know how to make it sound great over the web.
Berkeley Sound Artists' facilities are located in the Saul Zaentz Media Center - just a short hop from the Bay Bridge. We have ample free, secure parking and great restaurants close by. The Media Center is home to Fantasy Studios and Berkeley Digital Film Institute's mix stage. These world-class facilities are where we record narration and finish our Dolby surround mixes.
Every client that comes through our doors receives the same loving attention to detail that we've provided Academy-Award™ winning filmmakers, leaders in the Gaming Industry, and, yes, even multinational corporations.
Berkeley Sound Artists' has a stellar reputation in the world of postproduction audio. And we've made a name for ourselves as one of the preeminent documentary sound houses in the country. Our reputation is based on our creative sensitivity, technical expertise and ability to really listen to our clients' desires.
Post sound happens at an interesting time in a film's development. Everyone has been working on it for years. The months leading up to picture lock have been arduous. And then, this new group of people comes onboard the sound crew. Will they care as much as we do? Will they get us to the finish line on time? We know that your film is your baby and we'll take good care of it!
We work on projects of any size or budget. First-time filmmakers love us because we guide them through the process from start to finish. And they can expect the same attention to detail and personal comfort that we've given to Academy Award™- winning directors and corporate clients. From simple stereo mixes to 5.1 surround, we offer the option of finishing in our Studio One, downstairs at Berkeley Digital Film Institute's Dolby capable mix theater, offsite up at Skywalker Sound or in Los Angeles.
BSA can guide you through the ever-changing maze of required delivery formats, including television, DVD, High Definition or foreign versions. We stay up to date on the current delivery specifications for PBS and all the major festivals.
Speaking of television and festivals, our work has been heard on HBO, PBS and at film festivals such as Sundance, Tribeca and Toronto.
Check out the portfolio of projects that we've had the honor of contributing to. Then contact us to discuss your custom postproduction audio package.
Many sounds artists seem to do restorations and not all work in movies.
They tend to fix the sound for movies, games and so on, but personally, i think that using an old piece of music that has some imperfection, if well edited could give something a nice effect.
Using old damaged sound tracks would be good to give something a creepy feel.
